Born Steven Hiroyuki Aoki on November 30, 1977, in Miami, Florida and raised in Los Angeles, Steve Aoki is the son of the late Rocky Aoki, founder of the Benihana restaurant chain. He founded his legendary independent label Dim Mak Records in 1996 — a powerhouse imprint that helped launch the careers of artists across indie rock, electronic, and hip-hop — and transitioned into DJing and production in the late 2000s. In 2012, Pollstar designated him the highest-grossing electronic dance music artist in North America. His 2012 debut studio album Wonderland earned a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronica Album, and his subsequent albums — including the Neon Future series, Steve Aoki Presents Kolony, and HiROQUEST — have featured collaborations with Linkin Park, BTS, Backstreet Boys, Lil Jon, Afrojack, will.i.am, Blink-182, and many more.
